NEW SPRINGFIELD - Funeral Services will be Thursday, August 23rd at 10:00 a.m. at the Clemente Funeral Home in New Middletown for Peter Paul Vitko, 90, of New Springfield, who passed away Sunday evening.

Peter was born Sept. 17, 1921, a son of Andrew and Agnes (Franjko) Vitko.

He served proudly in the U.S. Army-Air Force. After returning home from active duty, during World War II, he married Mary Poldergotch, the love of his life, on Sept. 1, 1948. They celebrated their 61st anniversary, before Mary's death, in 2010.

Peter loved his wife Mary and provided for her care through five years of Alzheimer's decline. He built the family home in New Springfield in 1954, where he resided his whole life.

He was a member of the Teamsters Union and worked for Charles Shutrump Company until his retirement in 1980. Pete was a long time member of St. Paul's Church in New Middletown and was recently honored by the American Legion for 50 years of continuous membership.

Pete deeply cared about his children and grandchildren and enjoyed bowling, fishing, bingo and working on cars and all things mechanical.

Peter leaves his children, Paul (Denise) Vitko of Minnesota; Karen (Paul) Arbogast of Columbiana; Andrew (Colleen) Vitko of Medina and David (Denise) Vitko of Columbiana; two brothers, Paul and Frank Vitko; eight grandchildren, Terra Arbogast, Lacy Vitko, Kelly Vitko, Rachel Vitko, Lauren Vitko, Josh Arbogast, Nick (Michelle) Vitko and David Vitko.

He was preceded in death by parents, wife, one son, Peter, Jr. who died at birth, brothers,

Andrew, Steve and John and one sister, Mary.
