EAST PALESTINE -Under new direction, the 14th annual Toys for Tots car show will be slightly different this year.
Formerly organized by the Nostalgia Haulers Truck Club, the show is now under the direction of the East Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce.
Chamber member Don Elzer said the organization was pleased to take on the show scheduled for noon to 6 p.m. Saturday on North Market Street.
"When this became available we jumped on it. This is a big event here," he said.
All proceeds from the event go toward Toys for Tots, and donated toys are also requested. Those who attend will likely leave with more than what they came with, as a variety of items will be available through the Chinese and silent auctions and 50/50 raffle.
Deb Oberlin, Toys of Tots coordinator for the county, has been responsible for securing the items, which include a trip to Florida, a full size racing tire autographed by Dale Earnhart Sr. and Dale Earnhart Jr., with accompanying certificate of authenticity; an autographed Steelers jersey with certificate, and autographed footballs from the Steelers and the Cleveland Browns.
Former Steelers players and Super Bowl winners Dwayne Woodruff and John Jackson will also be at the show to visit with the public.
Kids will have the opportunity to have pictures taken with character cars Towmater and Lightning McQueen and adults and children alike can tour the Rockenberger Museum as well as various exhibits along the street by several artists, one of whom is a nationally-known professional pin-striper, Elzer said.
A new addition to the show is live music, which will be offered by Traci Patterson, Ben Flint and Marlene and Sparo Figley near the museum.
Chamber member Kerri Stewart said the chamber was able to "elaborate" this year on what was already a "really great car cruise."
"I'm very excited. We have some really awesome auction items. I think it's just going to be a terrific day," she said.
Vehicle registration the day of the show is free with either a monetary or toy donation to Toys for Tots and dashboard plaques will be given to the first 200 registered vehicles. Sponsor trophies will be awarded.
