DARLINGTON, Pa. - Merle Balmer, 76, of Darlington Twp., PA, died Saturday, August 4, 2012 at his residence.
He was born May 1, 1936, in Beaver Falls. He was the son of the late Merle L. Balmer and Rowena Best Shumaker and stepfather, Orvil 'Dick' Shumaker.
Merle was the maintenance foreman at Providence Hospital for 11 years, a Lab Technician for McDaniel Factory for 10 years and also worked on the railroad for four years.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janis D. Campbell Balmer; a daughter, Angel Baby; four brothers and five sisters-in-law, Bill and Ellie Shumaker, Portsmouth VA, Jim and Eileen Balmer, Seigle, PA, Rithchie and Detrie Balmer, Beaver Falls, Matthew and Mary Balmer, Beaver Falls and Monica Best, FL; best friend, Charles Madden, East Palestine, OH; also several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John S. Best and a sister, Betty Cumberledge.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Lutton Chippewa Funeral Home, 117 Blackhawk Road, www.luttonfuneralhome.com, where a service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. Pastor C. F. Hoffman, of the First Presbyterian Church Darlington, will officiate.
Private interment will follow in Seceder Cemetery.
