If East Liverpool Mayor Jim Swoger is such a business-hating liberal, as suggested by Republican hitman David Johnson, why has the Republican Party not fielded a candidate against him? If Mr. Johnson cares so much about the well-being of our city, why is he not escorting Mr. Newbold into East Liverpool City Hall, a place Mr. Newbold has not entered since taking office, to lead the way?
It's because Mr. Johnson does not really care about East Liverpool or the truth. This is nothing more than an attempt to ramp up the political rhetoric before the November elections...an attempt to portray all Democrats as evil "liberals" and all Republicans as "job creators." Enough, already. Treat our voters as the intelligent individuals they are. Drop the innuendo and discuss facts.
However, judging by Mr. Johnson's appalling support for a group of public servants who knowingly broke the law (and have managed to keep their positions), I won't hold my breath. He insinuates that Mayor Swoger managed to swindle the entire county by convincing not only local judges, but judges at the highest level of the state, that the truth is anything but that. And not "liberal, activist judges," as the rhetoric goes, but Republican judges. If Mr. Johnson wants to blame somebody, he should blame the ones who illegally broke a contract.
The only one trying to sell something here is you, Mr. Johnson. If these letters of yours were not about playing politics, these comments would be made in person. You are welcome in East Liverpool City Hall at any time to discuss these or any other issues. If you care about East Liverpool, please stop by and offer your help. Speak to your fellow Republicans who are in office and get them into city hall.
We would all love to see them and have a positive discussion about the future of our city. But if this is just about playing games with the voters, keep writing your letters and telling your tales. The rest of us will be at work for the people.
