Harold Detwiler

Lisbon - Harold A. "Harry" Detwiler, 84, of Brown Street, passed away peacefully at 10:30pm, Saturday, June 30, 2012 at the Hospice House of Poland.

Mr. Detwiler was born December 7, 1927 in Columbiana, a son of the late Lester and Mary (Zeigler) Detwiler and had lived in the area all of his life.

Harry worked as a machinist at the former Paxton Machine and then Lehman Mills in Salem, retiring in 1997.

He was a member of the Lisbon Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Harry was also a member of the "Seagoing Cowboys", a group which provided humanitarian aid in the form of transporting live cattle and other livestock overseas to Poland following WW II. He was also an avid carpenter, having built his own home, and a gunsmith, having made many dueling pistols and derringers over the years.

He is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife, Phyllis Jean (Wells) Detwiler, whom he married March 25, 1950; children, Russell Detwiler of Lisbon, Cindy McMurray of Charleston, W.Va., Marvin Detwiler of Lisbon, Terri Piergiovanni of Columbus, and Arthur Detwiler of Austintown; sisters, Joyce Hostettler and Christina Detwiler, both of Bluffton, Ohio; brother, Willard Detwiler of Prescott Arizona; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Mr. Detwiler was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Bassinger and his brother, Ray Detwiler.

A memorial service will be held at 3pm, Saturday, July 7, 2012 at the Lisbon Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 38195 Hunters Camp Rd., Lisbon with Mr. Alan Foster officiating. Private burial will take place in Lisbon Cemetery.

No calling hours will be observed.

Arrangements are in the care of the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home.
