Bruce Foster

BRADENTON, Fla. - Bruce A. Foster, 77, of Bradenton, FL., died on Monday June 11, 2011 due to complications from a recent illness.

He was born in East Palestine, Ohio on July 16, 1934 to Florence Ethylene Harvey Foster and Lewis Andrew Foster. He had three siblings, Herbert H. Foster of East Palestine, and Gloria Foster Coakley and Thomas Foster, both of whom preceded him in death.

Bruce was an East Palestine High graduate after which he decided to serve his country and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Fayetteville, North Carolina and was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. During this time, he met the former Dorothy Brown and they were married on December 17, 1956. Bruce and Dorothy were married for 39 years before Dorothy's passing in 1995.

In addition to serving his country Bruce believed in service to his community where he was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church, East Palestine Fire Department, East Palestine Auxiliary Police Department, East Palestine EMT, American Legion Post #31 , American Legion Post #108 in Franklin, NC, and was a past Worshipful Master of Masonic Lodge # 417. He also served as Councilman in East Palestine and was the Republican Party Representative for Columbiana County.

After returning home from his service in the military Bruce worked for NRM Corp. in Columbiana, Ohio as a Hydraulic Technician and Lead-man for over 30 years eventually retiring from Mitsubishi Heavy Industry in Leetonia, Ohio in 1995.

Bruce was an avid music lover throughout his life and was a member of the East Palestine Marching Band where he played the drums starting in the sixth grade. He enjoyed golfing and also took great pleasure in traveling with his family.

In December of 1996 he married Clara Mae Yareb Conti. They made their home in Bradenton, Florida and Franklin, North Carolina.

Bruce is survived by three children, Bruce Jr. (Michele) of Safety Harbor Florida, Steven of Poland, Ohio, and Jennifer (Art) of Poland. He also leaves a stepson, Joseph Conti of Phoenix, Arizona. Bruce was adored by his 6 Grandchildren; Kristina Foster, Thomas Foster, Stephanie (Jeff) Foster Kosik, Amanda (Cullen) Foster Wallace, Elaine Remick, Addison Remick as well as 6 Great Grandchildren: Caden Foster, Emma Foster, Bella Felleti, Jaxson Kosik, Mason Wallace, and Evelette Kosik.

An open memorial service will be held on Saturday June 30th at 11am at Centenary United Methodist Church in East Palestine, Ohio. In lieu of flowers and in his memory, the family requests that material contributions be forwarded to the East Palestine Fire Fighters Association.
