OCALA, Fla. - Surrounded by her loving family, Emma Jean Van Devender passed away on June 16, 2012 at Timber Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Ocala from complications associated with pneumonia. Born on September 14, 1930, Emma was the oldest daughter of six children of Harry and Blanche Cooke of Jesse, West Virginia.
Joining her parents, she is reunited in heaven with her husband of 52 years, Paul H. Van Devender. Emma married Paul on March 20, 1956 in Charleston, W.Va., and was married for 52 years until his passing on August 19, 2008.
Her family was her true joy. She had two daughters, Mary Ann (married Philip Cole), and Sheila Hull of Ocala, Fla., and a son, Paul A. (married Julie Costantini) Van Devender, of Canfield, Ohio; five grandsons, Christopher and Shannon Cole, Anthony Ferris, Ryan and Aiden Van Devender, four granddaughters, Megan Scott, Ashley Kovacs, Nichole and Olivia Van Devender, four great-grandchildren, Haden Scott, Addison Kovacs, Morgan Cole and Scarlett Cole.
Prior to moving to Florida in 1999, Emma was a longtime resident of East Palestine, Ohio, and a member of First Church of Christ and East Palestine Chapter No. 381 OES Eastern Star.
There are no services or calling hours and her family will hold a memorial service at a future date. Condolences may be sent to the family c/o Mary Ann and Phil Cole, 7819 S.
