No foul play suspected in man’s death

SALEM - The death of a Salem man while visiting family in Ashtabula County last week remains under investigation.

Christopher Gardner, 35, was found dead in a pond in Dorset Friday morning. He had been reported missing Thursday afternoon, after last being seen by family members Tuesday night during a party near the pond.

Ashtabula County Sheriff Billy Johnson said he's waiting for toxicology results from an autopsy, but said Monday "it did not appear that any foul play was involved at all."

The sheriff said family members reported he used to like to go in the woods and just thought that's where he was, but when they couldn't find him they called the authorities and reported him missing.

Gardner's body was found in the pond a day later.
