NEGLEY - David C. Pethtel, Sr., 80, of Dyke Road, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday at his residence.
David was born February 11, 1932 in East Liverpool, a son of the late George D. and Gertrude Goodwin Pethtel, Sr., and had resided in the Negley area for the past 52 years. He had been employed as a mechanic with Crucible Steel, Midland, for 28 years, followed by 10 years with Ryder Trucking prior to his retirement. He also farmed his own property for over 50 years.
He was a member of Lake Mount Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, the former Joyce E. Gorby, whom he married February 1, 1969. Dave also leaves two sons, David C. (Denise) Pethtel, Jr. and John A. (Nancy "Cranny") Pethtel, both of Negley; and three daughters, Barbara Pethtel and her fiance Carl Tullis of Leetonia, Carol J. (Jim) McCowin of Salem, and Bobbie (Jim) Huston of Negley. Other survivors include a brother, Allen Pethtel, and a sister, Vivian Owens, both of East Liverpool; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Three brothers, Theodore, George D., Jr., and Donald Pethtel, and three sisters, Ruth Brewer, Dorothy Cataldo, and Jean Chisare, preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends at Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home, East Palestine, from 3-7 p.m. Friday and for one hour prior to the service at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lake Mount Church of Christ, state Route 7, New Waterford. Officiating will be Roy Seaux of the church. The family has asked that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, OH 44512.
