NEGLEY - Shirley J. Burton, age 84, of Negley, Ohio died at home on Sunday, May 20, 2012 after a brief illness.
The daughter of the late Paul F. and Viola Mae (Reed) Mulligan, Mrs. Burton was born in East Liverpool on February 14, 1928 and had lived her entire life in the area. She retired as an Operator with the former Ohio Bell Co, and had also worked at Commercial Decal and National Church Envelope Co.
A graduate of East Liverpool High School, Class of 1945, She was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church, and was a member of the Old Guard in East Liverpool. Mrs. Burton also enjoyed the game of Bingo and played with many card clubs.
She was preceded in death in 1986 by her husband, Lamphier Burton Jr. They were married on June 17, 1949.
Survivors include her son, Kim P. Burton and his wife, Cindy, of Negley, Ohio, a daughter, Debra J. Pugh and her husband, Thomas, of Calcutta. Two grandchildren, Max Burton and his wife, Misty, of Negley and Elizabeth Pugh of East Liverpool. Eight Great Grandchildren, Parker and Logan Burton of Negley, Micah, Izaiah, and Charley Pipkins of East Liverpool and Cydnee, Savanna, and Sahara Pugh of Columbiana.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Doug and Mandy Mae Pugh, two brothers, Jack Hindman and Charles Reed, and one sister, Margaret (Mulligan) Harmon.
Calling hours will be held at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 PM with Rev. Stephen Cramer of the church conducting services Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM. Burial will follow Wednesday at Columbiana Co. Memorial Park.
