STEUBENVILLE - The Beavers made mistakes, and the Crusaders made them pay.
The Beaver Local baseball team scored the first run of the game, but Catholic Central countered by scoring the final four runs of the game en route to a 4-1 victory Friday at Vaccaro Field.
"We made mistakes," Beaver Local (6-6) head coach Bill Sattler said. "We made some errors that contributed to three or four of their runs.

"We are not hitting the ball. I don't know why, but we are hitting the ball. When you are not hitting the ball, you can't make mistakes, and we made three or four mistakes that attributed to three or four of their runs."
The Beavers lone of the game came in the top of the first inning, and Beaver Local was only able to muster four hits in the game.
A big reason for that was the pitching of Catholic Central ace Steve Mihalyo. Mihalyo struck out six and walked two in picking up the win. Mihalyo was able to get a variety of pitches over the plate, and he was able to pitch ahead in the count for a good bit of the game.

"He was throwing strikes," Sattler said. "He was able to get his fastball over, and he was able to get his breaking ball over."
Two of the Beavers' hits went for extra bases. Ryan Smith tallied a double and an RBI, and Sam Frank contributed a double.
Also, Kevin Sevey and Cody Dawson each delivered a single.
The Crusaders (9-3) did not fare much better against Beaver Local pitcher Jared Britt. Britt took the loss despite only allowing five hits. Britt finished the game with four strikeouts and two walks.
Pat Lyons led the way offensively for the Crusaders with two run-scoring singles, and Jimmy Panella added a double and an RBI.
"It's one area we need to improve on, and we did that tonight," first-year Catholic Central head coach Donnie Young said about his team's ability to come through at the plate with two outs. "We have been having poor at-bats in those situations, and we need to do a better job in situations where we can score runs."
The Crusaders tied the score at 1 with a run in the bottom of the second. Catholic Central took the lead at 3-1 with a pair of runs in the fourth. The victors added an insurance run in the fifth.
The Beavers had a couple of chances to cut into their deficit, but they were unable to come up with the clutch hit.
"I thought we should have hit him," Sattler said.
Both teams play doubleheaders today. Beaver Local takes on local-rival Wellsville at noon at home, while Catholic Central plays at 1:30 p.m. at Bishop Donahue.
