The voters of the Beaver Local School District have a very important decision to make on March 6. Our district is facing some real challenges. Our buildings are in need of many repairs.
Rogers School probably has the greatest of these needs - with the septic and possibly the water systems needing to be replaced.
Many of the classrooms there have their own heating systems because of the fallen ductwork in the main building. All buildings-(even the high school and the middle school ) need new roofs, and the electrical systems need to be updated. Because our buildings are outdated-we are not spending our money wisely. We could be spending less money on utilities if we had energy-efficient buildings.
The state will help us pay 62 percent of the bill to build a new K-12 building, but there will be no help to pay for renovations that are needed now.
An added benefit to having new facilities would be to create environments conducive to learning- clean with comfortable temperatures. Right now, many classrooms are really unbearable on sunny days-especially in the late spring and early fall.
I believe that having one K-12 complex would have the following advantages:
Our school nurse would be more "available" to all students; sharing of resources (library, computer, media, teacher materials), teacher/administration collaboration would be more conducive in one building; and I think the greatest possible good would be a sense of a Beaver Local community.
Please join me in voting "yes" for a bright future for Beaver Local.
I am a hopeful graduate, teacher, and resident of Beaver Local.
