When the autumn air turns crisp and cool, many folks in Columbiana County develop a craving for apples and apple treats. Lucky for us the 44th Johnny Appleseed Festival starts today in downtown Lisbon.
The festival kicks off at 9 a.m. today with a queen's breakfast at the New Lisbon Presbyterian Church, followed by the grand parade at 11 a.m.
The fun continues through 8 p.m. Sunday with a car cruise, live entertainment and a pie baking contest as just a few of the featured events. The traditional quilt show and quilt raffle will also be held.
A new addition this year is a fall festival fashion show with clothing provided Fashion Forward being modeled by the Appleseed queen contestants.
Sunday's main events include a pet parade, a biker's show and a performance by the Lisbon Community Chorus.
And, if apple treats are your delight, there are apple dumplings, apple pie, apple fritters and apple ice cream available throughout the festival grounds. In addition to the many other food vendors, the First United Methodist Church will offer its delicious barbecued chicken dinners.
It's an apple lover's dream, but in addition to the fruity delicacies, the festival offers something for everyone, young and old alike.
