Why print in the paper the local police have asked the local scrap yards to notify them if some one tries to sell them scrap that has been listed in the local police reports?

If I was the thief I would surely go out of town to sell it. The scrap yards surely know most of the copper and aluminum material that is brought to them is stolen.

The way this type of theft could be cut down would be if all scrap yards would only make payments by check to a legal house address supported by a picture I.D. Then they should report this information to the local police and let them do the work to find out if it was stolen material or not.
