EAST PALESTINE - Robert Gregory, 89, of Kenmar Drive, passed away at 4:35 p.m. Saturday, April 16th, at the Salem Community Hospital, where he had been a patient for the past eight days.
Mr. Gregory was born March 20, 1922, in East Palestine, a son of the late Charles and Cora Seiter Gregory, Sr., and was a life resident of the community.
He had farmed in the Unity area, and from 1954 through 1982, he had been employed with Kaiser Refractories, until his retirement.
He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed horse racing. His memberships included the Unity Grange, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4579, the American Legion Post 31, and the Grace Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death on January 21, 2006, by his wife, the former Dorothy Becker, whom he married March 20, 1950. A grandson, Chad Gregory, as well as two brothers, Charles Sr., and John Gregory, and six sisters, Florence Spellman, Jean Mollenkopf, Ruth Jordan, Julia Clark, Annie Levine, and Margaret Whitehead, had also preceded him in death.
Two sons survived him, Larry R. (Cindi) Gregory of Lutz, Fla., and Keith W. Gregory, East Palestine; and two grandchildren, Chris and Amy Gregory.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Michael Parker of the First United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Glenview Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the combined units of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday.
