66th year for Wellsville couple

WELLSVILLE - Raymond and Marcella James, Hillcrest Road, will celebrate their 66th wedding anniversary on July 19.

The couple were married on July 19, 1944 at the Morral Methodist Church Parsonage by Rev. Fred Rice. Their attendants were the late Ralph and Mary Jane (Eaton) Hess, Sycamore.

The Jameses farmed in Delaware and Marion counties for 13 years. In 1960, Mr. James was transferred from Ohio Edison's Scioto Power Plant in Marion County to W.H. Sammis Plant of First Energy, Ohio Edison in Jefferson County, where he worked as a control room operator. He retired in 1980 after 29 years of service.

Mrs. James worked for the Kroger Grocery Company in Marion as head cashier. Later, she was employed as a head cafeteria cook for the Wellsville Public School System. She retired in 1985 after 17 years of service.

They have four children; Joyce (Jim) Bailey, Rogers; Jack (Alcinda) James, Irondale; Tim (Cynthia) James, Homestead, Fla.; and Barbara Welch, Venice, Fla. A son, Paul Wesley James is deceased. They also have 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

They are active members of the St. John's Lutheran Church, East Liverpool; and Yellow Creek Grange where Mr. James is a master and Mrs. James is a chaplain. Mr. James is also a 32nd degree Mason and a past president of the Southern Ruritan Club.

Mrs. James also will be honored for her 90th birthday with a card shower hosted by Joyce Bailey and Alcinda James at Oakridge Presbyterian Church from 1-5 p.m. July 24. Mrs. James was born July 30, 1920. The family requests that gifts be omitted.
