David Muslovski

June 21, 2010

NEW MIDDLETOWN - David Stanley Muslovski, 55, of New Middletown, died June 17, 2010, at St. Elizabeth Health Center after suffering injuries resulting from a pedestrian accident.

He was born Nov. 9, 1954, in Rochester, Pa., a son of Constantine "Stanley" and Katherine "Elise" Sawyer Muslovski. Dave and his twin brother, Daniel, were born on their older sister, Sarah's birthday.

He was a 1972 graduate of Midland High School. During high school, he played football and alongside his brother and teammates, they took home the 1970 State Championship and were Runner-Up in the State Championship the following year. He went on to receive his Associate's Degree in Diesel Mechanics from the Community College of Beaver County. Dave married his wife and soul mate, the former Denise Orette St. Esprit, on Feb. 23, 1974. They moved from Midland in 1980 to East Palestine, where they raised their three children, Jeff, Tina, and Elise.

Dave started his career in the pallet industry in 1974 when he started working for Kyle Pallet in Negley, Ohio. He worked for the company until 1987 when he branched out and started his own business, Iron City Wood Products, Inc. in Campbell. Dave, alongside his wife, Denise, and her brother, Mark, grew the business from its infancy stage to its current level of success. It currently employs over 80 dedicated and loyal employees, who over time became part of Dave's family. Dave and Denise relocated in 1996 to New Middletown to be closer to the business and to continue nurturing the growth of the company.

During childhood, he and his twin brother were given nicknames. Dave was affectionately known to close family and friends throughout his entire life as "Slush" and his twin brother, Daniel, as "Slish." From a very early age, his parents, who were both deaf, taught him to be driven and to never give up. They were a strong force in his life that fostered his extreme sense of loyalty to his family and friends and instilled strong values and ethics in him that he used in both his personal and professional life. Dave will always be remembered as a generous man who was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, never expecting anything in return.

Dave was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in New Middletown, the Youngstown Power Squadron, the YMCA in Boardman, the Sharon Social Fishing Club, the National Wooden Pallet and Container Association, the Better Business Bureau of Mahoning County, and the National Federation of Independent Businesses. He was a former member of the New Middletown Sportsmen's Club and the Knights of Columbus at Our Lady of Lourdes in East Palestine. Dave also actively supported the community including supporting children's sporting events and fundraisers throughout the Campbell, Lowellville, Struthers, and Crestview areas.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, water and snow skiing, riding his four wheelers at his property in South Beaver Twp., Pa., camping, riding his Harley, and traveling. His travels took him all across the states and to the Caribbean Islands, Mexico, Guatemala, Venezuela, Brazil, and Costa Rica. An adventure seeker, his traveling was just not vacationing, but rather learning the rich heritage and history of the places he visited. Dave has been exercising daily for the past year in preparation for his lifelong dream of hiking the Appalachian Trail with his wife, Denise.

In addition to his father of East Liverpool, he leaves his wife, Denise; two daughters, Christina (D.J.) Muslovski Yanssens of Columbiana and Elise Muslovski of Zelienople; his son, Jeffrey (Amanda) Muslovski of New Springfield; his twin brother, Daniel (Lorraine) Muslovski of Beaver Falls; four sisters, Mary Anne Muslovski of Manchester, N.J., Sarah (Mike) Wilson of East Liverpool, Patty (Steve) Allen of Monroe, Ga., and Pam (Terry) Cook of Azle, Texas; seven grandchildren, Kayla, Danielle, Andrew, Brandon, Jeffrey, Logan, and Tanner; and numerous nieces and nephews who looked up to him as a role model and adored him for being so active in their lives.

Dave was preceded in death by his mother.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 10143 Main St., New Middletown.

Family and friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St., Poland, and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.

The family requests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the David S. Muslovski Charitable Foundation in c/o any Huntington Bank branch.
