Scullion named top Div. II district player

COLUMBUS - Salem's top player and two East Palestine standouts highlight the Northeast Inland All-District high school basketball teams announced Friday.

Salem senior Amy Scullion was named Division II girls district player of the year along with Canton South senior Shavon Robinson.

Scullion averaged a team-high 18.6 points, 9.9 rebounds and 3.0 assists a game while leading the Quakers to an 18-6 season and a third straight trip to the district final.

She has been a district first-teamer three years in a row.

A four-year starter, Scullion ended her career with 1,265 points.

Also named to the district first team were East Palestine senior Ben Gysin and East Palestine senior Emily Casto in Division III and Wellsville junior Michael Johnston in Division IV.

Gysin returned to the boys district first team after guiding the Bulldogs to a second straight Inter-Tri County League upper tier title. He led the 18-4 Bulldogs by averaging 19.0 points and 11.3 rebounds a game.

Casto gained first-team honors after accounting for more than half of East Palestine's offense as she averaged a team-high 15.5 points and 5.6 assists a game.

Johnston was the top scoring threat for Wellsville, which went 20-3 with all three losses coming to ITCL lower tier champion McDonald. He averaged 18.3 points and 3.8 assists a game while shooting 44 percent from three-point range.

Second-team selections went to Wellsville senior Jeremy Carter and Wellsville sophomore Mikyla Tipton in Division IV; Springfield senior Andria Lyons in Division III; and West Branch senior Michele Sosnick in Division II.

Named to the third team were East Palestine senior Austin Cope, Lisbon senior Mandy Jackson, Springfield senior Ashley Davis, United senior Hillary Hoppel and United senior Zack Taylor in Division III and Columbiana senior Tyler Denmeade and Lisbon senior Todd Padurean in Division IV.

Receiving honorable mention were Salem's Ryan Wolfgang, Trent Toothman and Chelsea Fuson and West Branch's Tylor Rockwell and Katie Sellaroli in Division II; Crestview's Carter Hill, East Palestine's Trevor Reiser, Lisbon's Katie Snoddy and Abbey Brammer, South Range's Brandon Pluchinsky and Ellie Stoffer, Springfield's Jim Zubick, and United's Ruth Prosko and Sierra Parks in Division III; and Columbiana's Logan Goist, Katie Witmer and Hayley Goist, Crestview's Ashley Harrison and Shanelle Davner, Heartland Christian's Jake Farran, Leetonia's Clarissa Perkins and Lauren Ketterman, Lisbon's William Bowyer, Sebring's Aaron Van Kirk and Jill Bragg, Dakota Wagner, Southern Local's Jake Boyle, Eric Baker and Maddy Dowling, and Wellsville's Jalen DeSarro in Division IV.
