Salem area couple marks 60th year

SALEM - Mr. and Mrs. Gail L. Phillis, Depot Road, will celebrate 60 years of marriage at a family dinner party March 14 at Alliance Family Restaurant, hosted by their children.

The former Barbara McFadden, daughter of Howard and Ella May McFadden, became the bride of Gail L. Phillis, son of Charles W. and Mary (Burt) Phillis, March 18, 1950, in a ceremony performed by Rev. Douglas Stewart, at Phillips Christian Church.

Mr. Phillis retired from his own trucking company in 1977 and retired from bus driving at United Local School in 2008 after 29 years.

Mrs. Phillis retired as office manager from Heck's Department Store in 1988 and worked in several farm markets in the area. She also kept books for her husband's business.

Both are members of Phillips Christian Church, where Mrs. Phillis has edited and published a monthly paper at the church since 1948.

The couple have seven children, Mrs. Rorie (Diana) Reiter; Michael (Lynn) Phillis; Gail L. Phillis Jr. all of Salem; Richard (Krystal) Phillis, Lansing, Mich.; Jerald (Kim Ann) Phillis, New Waterford; Scott (Peggy) Phillis, Lisbon; Mrs. Ed (Janet) DiBaggio, Broadview Heights; 19 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
