Times are tough all over, but at times like these it's encouraging to see others pulling together and putting the good of the community before personal gain.
Such was the case this past week when Salem Welding and Supply stepped up to the plate and helped the city of Salem out of a bind.
The city is suffering from an aging snow removal fleet and no funds to repair the equipment when it frequently breaks down. Several of the vehicles were in need of welding and Fred Baker Jr., owner of Salem Welding and Supply, decided his employees had some extra time, so he gave the city a late Christmas present and donated welding services to try to get the snow removal equipment moving again.
Kudos to Baker and his crew. You not only helped out the city, you may have helped prevent traffic accidents as well. We hope the community appreciates your service. We also hope that when the city has a little more money they'll remember your kind gesture and send some paying business your way.
