A new year has dawned, but in the village of Salineville, it appears that some officials - old and new - are suffering hangovers from the old grudges being harbored from years past.
We have to ask the same question posed by LA police beating victim Rodney King, "can we all get along?"
We want to believe that no one would run for elected office simply to be a thorn in the side of other officials, but we're starting to have our doubts. And while the shenanigans of some officials make good stories that undoubtedly help us sell newspapers, we have to wonder how all of this is affecting the town. We believe it is having a devastating effect on the progress the village hopes to make in the coming year. Devoting most of your energy to negative actions doesn't help anything or anyone.
And so, in the spirit of the new year, we're asking officials of Salineville, both elected and appointed, to bury the hatchet and try to get along for the good of the village. You might be surprised how much better off the village is this time next year if you put the good of the village first.
