Avis SeederlyDecember 12, 2009COLUMBIANA - Avis Seederly, 97, of Pittsburgh Street, Columbiana, Ohio, passed away at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, December 10, 2009 at her residence. Avis was born on October 5, 1912 in New Waterford, Ohio, the daughter of the late Harry and Naomi (Metz) Unger. Mrs. Seederly graduated from Salem City Nursing School in 1933 and moved to Columbiana in 1936 when she married George Seederly. She worked for Dr. Trader of Columbiana for 3 years. In 1948 she and George established the Seederly Funeral Home in Columbiana. In 1952 they took James and Marilyn Beilhart of North Lima as partners, to form the Seederly Beilhart Funeral homes of North Lima and Columbiana. After the death of Mr. Beilhart in 1971, James and Janet Mong purchased that interest. Mark and Jill Beck became partners in 1990 which formed the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home, from which Avis and her husband, George, retired in 1973. Avis was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbiana, where she was a choir member. Mrs. Seederly and her husband George hosted Foreign Exchange students from Germany and also raised her niece Shirley Booker for four years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, was an excellent Bridge player and had played in three different Bridge clubs in Columbiana. In earlier years, Avis enjoyed traveling to Canada and fishing. Avis was preceded in death on October 19, 1993 by her husband George W. Seederly whom she married on October 4, 1936. She also was preceded by her brothers Ronald Unger and Lester Unger, and three sisters Olive U. Hoge, Hazel B. Stokesberry and Betty J. Patterson. Mrs. Seederly is survived by her sister, Doris Yarian; 14 nieces and nephews; and 17 great-nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, December 14, 2009 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana with Rev. Mark Bell officiating. Burial will be in Columbiana Cemetery. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, December 13, 2009 and 1 hour prior to the service on Monday, December 14, 2009, at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana. Family suggests that material tributes be made to the Columbiana Chapter of the Salvation Army.
