Lucille Snyder

COLUMBIANA - Lucille I. Snyder, 97, of 2160 Lower Elkton Road, Columbiana, passed away at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, from infirmities of age.

Mrs. Snyder was born July 23, 1912, in Plymouth, Ind., the daughter of the late Dessie (Hite) and Charles L. Stoneburner.

Lucille graduated in 1936 with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Manchester College in North Manchester, Ind. She worked as an elementary school teacher for 22 years having taught at Fort Wayne, Ind., Crestview Local School and Beaver Local School from where she retired.

Mrs. Snyder was a member of the Zion Hill Church of the Brethren where she served as a Sunday School teacher and Deaconess for 27 years. Lucille was a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association. She was an Indiana State Penmanship Champion in 1930 and was an avid reader and enjoyed Bible studies.

Lucille was preceded in death on Sept. 6, 1996, by her husband, Emerson K. Snyder, whom she married on July 1, 1937.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen (Vernon) Bame of Bowling Green, Ohio, Charlotte Jones of Alamogordo, N.M., and Bowling Green, Ohio; one son, Lowell (Cheryl) Snyder of Columbiana, Ohio; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Snyder was preceded in death by her sister, Edna Mae Law, and by her brother, Edwin Earl Stoneburner.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana with the Rev. John Bartholomew and Pastor Douglas DeMar officiating. Burial will be in Columbiana Cemetery.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 12:30-1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made to The Way Station, 769 Springfield Road, Columbiana, OH 44408.
