December 1, 2009 - By TOM GIAMBRONI Staff Writer

A person was taken into custody after a woman was robbed Monday afternoon in a downtown Lisbon bank parking lot.

Lisbon Police said at 2:45 p.m. an employee of 1st National Community Bank phoned and advised a customer had just been robed in the parking lot.

Columbiana County Sheriff Raymond Stone said his office assisted in tracking the suspect to the Beverage Barn, located just north of town on state Route 45.

The vehicle reportedly being driven by the suspect was seen at the Beverage Barn, and village police officers and sheriff's deputies converged just as he was attempting to pull out of the drive-through after making a purchase. The suspect's path was blocked by a Lisbon police cruiser.

Kevin E. Kirby was taken into custody by Lisbon police with assistance from the sheriff's office and charged with robbery, a third-degree felony.

He was jailed pending a court appearance today.

Two men were arrested Saturday after reportedly being caught in the process of stealing scrap metal and household items from a residence on Fairmont Road., Elkton.

Andy Quimby, 27, state Route 154, Lisbon, was charged with theft, criminal trespassing and possessing criminal tools, while Floyd Brooks, 47, last known address Battle Creek, Mich., was charged with theft and criminal trespassing.

The pair was arrested at 3:54 p.m. Saturday after a Columbiana County sheriff's deputy was called to rental property on Fairmont Road by the owner, Brian Hunt, who was holding Quimby and Brooks. Hunt said he caught them in the process of stealing scrap metal from the property.

Quimby was found with a utility knife and pair of pliers on him. A toolbox belonging to Quimby was later found on the property.

According to sheriff's report, Quimby's girlfriend said she dropped them off at the property to steal the scrap and they were to call her when they were ready to haul away the ill-gotten booty. She was not charged.

The deputy later learned household items were also missing from the rental property, such as tools, Christmas decorations, children's toys, air hoses, heavy-duty extension cords and a computer monitor.

Six homeowners living on Crestview Road and Applesway Drive in Fairfield Township reported being victimized by a thief Saturday night.

Ed Olenik of Applesway Drive reported his 1987 Pontiac Fiero was stolen from where it had been stored on his property.

Meanwhile, a neighbor, Robert Pollock, reported hearing someone knocking at the door about 2 a.m. but ignored it, thinking the sound was from the blowing wind. In the morning, his wife discovered her purse was missing and a bench on the back porch had been shoved under a window to break into the home.

The following people reported their vehicles entered and items stolen: Wayne Wise, Crestview Road; Mike Love, Crestview Road; and Charlene McKenzie, Applesway Drive.

Robert Bertelsen, of Applesway Drive, reported his unlocked garage was entered and an industrial fire extinguisher was missing. It was later found at the end of his driveway.

Susan Olenik of Applesway Drive found two bicycles at the end of her driveway, but the deputy had yet to receive any reports of bicycles being stolen.
