Agnes Carnes

LISBON - Agnes Arenia Carnes, 88, died at 5:25 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at Blossom Nursing Home.

Born Feb. 22, 1921, in Ambridge, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Bertha (Shepherd) Pappas.

She had owned and operated her own taxi service and later worked at Hillyer's Fine Foods.

A member of the First Christian Church of Lisbon, she was a life member of VFW Auxiliary Post 4111, Eagles Auxiliary Aerie 2216, and American Legion Auxiliary Post 275; a member of Women of the Moose Chapter 642, AARP Columbiana County Chapter, RSVP of Columbiana County, Lisbon Grange, and Lisbon Senior Citizens.

She was preceded in death in 1969 by her first husband, Robert Ford whom she married April 19, 1952; second husband, Jack E. Carnes whom she married May 21, 1970, died in 1990; a brother Gus Pappas is also deceased.

Survivors include three brothers, James Pappas of Lisbon, Andrew Pappas of Tampa, Fla., and George Pappas of San Diego, Calif.; and a sister, Virginia Hendryx of California.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Weber Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Sinclair officiating. Burial will be in Lisbon Cemetery.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home where a VFW Auxiliary service will be held at 6 p.m.
