Name similarity causes confusion

November 2, 2009 - Staff Reports

LISBON - What's in a name? For Tom Wolfe, everything.

Wolfe, who is running for a seat on the Beaver Local school board in Tuesday's election, is concerned voters may confuse him with East Liverpool school board candidate Richard Keith Wolf, who has become the target of a sign campaign in recent days.

Wolfe contacted the Morning Journal Saturday to report that signs have begun appearing in the Beaver Local school district area of Calcutta telling people to vote against the other Wolf.

The self-employed Wolfe sells and repairs televisions, and he said some people already have confused the two, despite the fact they spell their last names differently.

"I've had several of my customers come up and ask me if that is me. People are getting these signs mixed up ... and it's bleeding off into my campaign, and it's not even in the same school district," he said.
