Auction to benefit NIE set

LISBON - The ninth annual Newspaper in Education (NIE) auction will begin at 10 a.m. Oct. 31 at the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center. Doors open at 9 a.m. and concessions will also be available.
The event is sponsored by the Morning Journal, Salem News and East Liverpool Review.
The auction will feature two excellent condition used cars donated by Brittain Pontiac Chevrolet of East Palestine and C. Hackett Jeep Chrysler Dodge of Newell, W.Va.
Brittain's has donated a silver Oldsmobile Alero in good running condition. The Alero also comes in good condition inside and out.
Hackett's green 1999 Plymouth Voyager features power locks and windows. The Voyager is also in good condition inside and out.
Both dealerships have been huge supporters of the NIE program, with this being their second year donating a used vehicle. These vehicles will go up for auction at noon.
Other items up for bid include autographs from the likes of Peyton Manning, Eli Manning Jerry Rice, Steve Young, Hinder, David Cook, Richard Petty, The Jonas Brothers, Troy Palamalu and more. There will also be clothing, collectibles, electronics, household items, jewelry, food, gift certificates, tools, toys, pottery, and tickets to area museums, zoo's, sports and halls of fame. A stay at the Mountaineer Racetrack and Gaming Resort that includes breakfast and dinner is also up for auction.
Businesses donating items include Salem Auto Zone, Calcutta Pizza Hut, Milligan's Hardware, Wal-Mart, Tim Horton's, Beaver Creek Mini Mart, Homer Laughlin, Build-A-Bear, East Palestine Dairy Queen, R's Pizza, Ponderosa, Bosco's Pizza, Lisbon Italo's, El Paso Restaurant, James Locke's Jewelry, Kings Jewelry, Avon, and more.
The NIE program supplies local teachers with newspapers for their curriculum at no cost. Currently 50 schools receive over 12,000 newspapers weekly. All proceeds will benefit the program.
