Ruth Davidson
NEGLEY - Mrs. Ruth E. Davidson, 83, formerly of 49782 state Route 154, passed away at 11:55 a.m. Monday at the Salem Community Hospital, where she had been a patient since Thursday.
Ruth was born Dec. 22, 1925, in Salem, a daughter of the late Emra W. and Mary Agnes Gamble Huston.
She was a direct descendent of one of the earliest pioneers in Middleton Township, Edward Huston, who settled there in 1804.
She had at one time been employed as a waitress at the 7 & 14 Restaurant.
She was a 50-year member of the Negley United Methodist Church, and had served as treasurer for a number of years with the combined class of the church.
Ruth had volunteered as a "Friendly Visitor," for several years, taking people to doctor's appointments, shopping, or short trips to the store.
Ruth enjoyed needlework, especially crocheting and plastic canvas.
Her husband, Howard E. "Shorty" Davidson, whom she married March 30, 1946, preceded her in death Aug. 8, 2002. A son, Keith Davidson, had also preceded her in death, as had a brother, Paul, in World War II. Two other brothers, Ralph Jesse and Lawrence Dayton, and a sister, Nova Mae, had preceded her in infancy.
Two sons, Ronald L. (Loretta) Davidson, New Waterford, and Gary E. (Kay) Davidson, Salem, survive, as do seven grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home, East Palestine. Burial will follow in Franklin Square Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
