First the leaves start turning. Then the nights get longer and cooler and the air starts to get that crisp smell of fall. About that time mouths in Lisbon and the surrounding area start watering for the taste of apples.
That's when you know that it must be Johnny Appleseed Festival time again. This year's event kicks off Saturday and continues through Sunday in downtown Lisbon.
About 40 food concession stands will be available to satisfy those apple cravings. Everything from apple dumplings (a festival favorite), to apple butter, apple fritters and even apple ice cream will be available. There will also be stands offering the usual carnival-food staples. And, as always, the Methodist Church will be serving its delicious barbecued chicken dinners.
Other festival attractions will include amusement rides, a car cruise, a motorcycle cruise and live entertainment, offering everything from the Lisbon Community Chorus and area thespians to rock bands.
Many of the Lisbon merchants will have special window displays in the downtown area. Make it a point to drop by the Morning Journal's display located next to Bill's TrueValue Hardware. And, don't miss the quilt show in the storefront of the Steel Trolley Market Place.
There's something to suit everyone's taste at the Johnny Appleseed Festival. Bring the family out for a fun-filled weekend in Lisbon.
