Shirley Custer

NEW WATERFORD - Shirley A. Custer, 83, of 46985 South State St, died at 7:20 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009, at Alliance City Hospital.

Mrs. Custer was born July 9, 1926, in Brownsville, Pa., a daughter of William and Elsie Moslener Springer and had lived in this area all of her life.

Shirley was a bank teller for the former New Waterford Bank for 10 years and a member of the New Waterford United Methodist Church.

Her husband, Claude C. Custer, whom she married Sept. 18, 1949, died March 13, 2000.

She is survived by her two sons, Claude (Alexandria) Custer, Jr. of Atwater and David (Barbara) Custer of Coshocton; a sister, Sylvia (Charles) Beatrice of East Palestine; a brother, Fred (Martha) Springer of East Palestine, and four grandchildren, Adam Custer of Colorado, Nora (Norbert) Haberbusch of Akron, Matthew Custer of Burlington, Vt., and Daniel (Mamie) Custer of Seattle, Wash.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana, with Pastor Terry Brown officiating. Burial will follow in New Waterford Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
