Jimmie ConwayAugust 12, 2009BEAVER TOWNSHIP - Jimmie D. Conway, 74, of Woodworth went home to be with the Lord at 1 p.m. on Aug. 10, 2009, at the Hospice House in North Lima, after a strong, courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 19, 1935, in Cortland, N.Y., the son of Percy B. and Eva (Cottrill) Conway. Mr. Conway graduated in 1954 from Boardman High School where he played football, baseball and threw the shot put. Pitching was his forte, so much, that he had a tryout for the Cleveland Indians. On this same team was pitching great Bob Feller. Even though he didn't make the team he bragged about the opportunity of a lifetime. Jimmie's first job was at McKay Machine Shop in Youngstown. He then went on to work for Borden Dairy in Boardman as a milkman in home delivery. He retired after 43 proud years as a distribution manager. While working for Borden Dairy, he received his Ohio Police Officers Training from Kent State (Salem) in Criminal Justice where he became a police officer for Beaver Township in the '70s. He ended his tenure as Police Chief. He was very proud of his accomplishments such as adding radar to the police vehicles, creating the Officer Friendly program for children of the township and moving the department out of a church and into the new safety building, where it is today. He also served as a special police constable for Boardman Township. He was a member of the Woodworth Church of the Brethren. He is survived by his loving, caring wife, Barbara (Lewis) Conway, whom he married Aug. 1, 1955, who stood by his side in 54 years of marriage. He leaves three sons, Doug of Boardman, Scott of Woodworth and Brian (Monica Klemann) of Columbiana. He also leaves a grandson, Maxwell, who was the highlight of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Charles, of Scottsdale, Ariz. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14, 2009, at the Woodworth Church of the Brethren with Mr. John Selders officiating. Burial will be in North Lima Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that material contributions be made to the Woodworth Church of the Brethren, 30 E. Western Reserve Road, Poland, Ohio 44514.
