Golden year for Parkinsons

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Ruth and Charles Parkinson, of Savannah, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 6.

The former Ruth Messersmith, daughter of the late Walter and Effie Messersmith, Columbiana, married Charles Parkinson, son of the late James and Winifred Parkinson, Logan, on July 6, 1959, in Jersey City, N.J. by the Reverend John Soeter of Bergen Reformed Church.

Mr. Parkinson retired in 2000 after serving 18 years as the director of finance for the Georgia Ports Authority.

Mrs. Parkinson retired in 2000 from Benedictine Military School, where she had worked in the media center for 12 years.

The couple have three children Kimberly (Jeff) Brantley, Savannah, Ga.; Anne-Liesse (Jerry) Ankeny, Huntersville, N.C.; and Christopher (Teresa Grace) Parkinson, Kennesaw, Ga.; and seven grandchildren.
