Gamble, who is a student in a gifted art class, had her work chosen by the Hanoverton Volunteer Fire Department as one to be sent to the state to be judged.
Gamble was presented with a certificate and an award by her art teacher, United Elementary principal Ruthann Rinto and fire Chief Tom Viceroy at Thursday’s board of education meeting.
Athletes participating in sports for the 2008-2009 school year will have one week of down time during the week of July 4 this summer, Athletic Director Don Feren reported.
The decision to reduce down time from two weeks to one came after several meetings with parents, coaches, and a poll of the students.
In other matters, the board:
—Purchased a replacement 2008 Ford F-250 pickup truck from Donnell Ford in Salem for $20,563.
— Approved the purchase of basic membership with Northeastern Television of Ohio for the 2008-2009 school year for $400.
— Approved 10 summer school teachers at a rate of $15 per hour.
— Approved four student custodial workers and two students for computer help at $7 per hour.
— Learned that the district will be reimbursed by its insurance company for repairs being made to a brick wall at the junior high school gym.
