Thanks whocare for the info but the SCFD rings directly to North Star, correct? They in turn alert the fire dept. This means instead of calling 911 and then they call NS and then they call the fire dept the middle man is eliminated. So this makes Gary McCoy correct in saying the response is quicker by calling the SCFD which in actuality is answered by North Star. I am trying to sort this situation out since it was not clearly presented in the news article. The article was about the 911 EL dispatcher blasting Gary McCoy and whining he did not check with first- like he did not go to Mecca before he spoke.

I don't think you understand, you just can't call the fire department direct cause nobody is at the fire department they are volunteer they have to be turned out. The only thing northstar does is take the information and tone of the fire department you can't call the fire department direct

Thank you for your answer whocare. This tells me it would be more efficient to call the St Clair Fire Dept directly than to call 911 and then have the EL dispatchers call North Star.

@poolman: The taxpayer is not paying twice. East Liverpool is a 911 PSAP, Incoming 911 calls do go to the proper agency, in a timely manner. Each Fire Department in the county has their own dispatching service that is of their choosing. In no way would a fire call be held for any reason of personal gain to any EMS agency liked or not liked. This was not an article regarding competing privately owned ambulance services. This was an article where the Asst. Chief of Calcutta stated not to call 911, but call their respective fire department phone numbers. By doing that, you create a breakdown in what 911 is for and is being taught young children to dial in case of an emergency. At the very least, his fire department should demand reprimanding him for this, and "Frankly Speaking", should be made to resign from the fire department or be removed.

Why is tax payer paying 2 times 911 is change to your phone bill then ELPD is pay North Star, an Ambulance Company. They may be hold the phone call until there is a Ambulance in the area of the fire to get free press time or business.. Why can't ELPD call the Fire Dept themselves??

Whoa whoa whoa.....why is Northstar in the picture! Well that just who happens to dispatch for calcutta and Glenmoor. I do believe they aren't involved in this political battle between calcutta and 911 center. They answer the phone when the call comes and and tones the FD. Thats all.

"Why is North Star in the picture". Now that is a good question that needs to be answered! I do know there have been problems with 911 since it was supposedly initiated years ago. Charges on our phone bills for it all along but still questions posed if it was working correctly in different sections of the county, etc. It is not efficient!!! Also - wasn't PS the one who failed to meet at least 2 filings for elections? Yes he is the one so he should stop pointing fingers at McCoy!!

I don't know McCoy or Scafide, but I would say Scafide is worry about his/her job.. Scafide said they call North Star, so they have to look up who it goes to, Calcutta or Glenmoor and if it on the line it may take more time. Why is North Star in the picture?? ELPD got to much now to handle??? I live in northwest part on the county and I had a fire about 4 years ago, called 911 and it was 8 mins until the fire whilse blow, I could of been to the town and got the fire truck myself and been back to my place, now the fire man got to get in the cars and go to town and get the fire trucks out and come to the fire.. Vol. fire dept. are great but time is a factor. It's just hard to save old barns or older house what I see, but we can not have someone at the fire dept 24 hrs a day. It's just life. Be careful, pray and have water ready.
