It is hard to believe that so many students are in SE! What is wrong with this picture? Could it be the school receives additional funding for each Special Ed student? Yes I believe that is part of it along with classroom teachers who just do not want to be bothered spending some extra time with a slower stident to get them "over the hump". No it just easier to ship them off to SE plus this also entails more teaching positions and and I been told the parents/guardians of these kids receive 900dollars per month from our gov't/taxpayers for each kid in SE. Something is sooo wrong with this picture.

Many of us who are familiar with the education system in East Liverpool know what Ms. Carfolo is up against. The numbers may show nearly 1 in 4 students placed in special education, but those are simply the ones that have been tested. You could walk into any elementary classroom and randomly select one-half of the students for testing and they would most likely qualify for placement. That is a sad, but true, commentary on the town. The BOE knows this and should be doing everything in it's power to provide support, not only for the director, but, also for the teachers, who are overwhelmed with paperwork and state requirements. Ms. Martin's lack of sensitivity to her former colleagues never ceases to amaze me. Mr. Wolf, thankfully, has one foot out the door.

Thank you to the Morning Journal for allowing a comment section which The Review felt we could not handle.
