This is something that needs to be done. Job performance needs evaluated every year, regardless of "contract language". Lesson learned over the last manager: "if you are in bed with council, you'll get favorable reviews, regardless of performance". This cannot happen again and council needs to draft legislation to require unbiased evaluations of the manager. What needs to be done is acquire public input into the evaluation also. This action would keep the evaluation more honest! REMEMBER, council works for the constituents, as does the manager. The town belongs to the citizens, not a few privy council persons and their manager. Seems this fact has been lost over the last 10 or so years!

Very well said. This is true of all politicians be it city, township, county, state or federal.

I was at the council meeting last night and my impression was this is what Cohen is trying to do, open up the process and make it more transparent. I don't think there's been a real evaluation in years, so even bringing this up for public discussion was a good thing. I think he wants to make it a law that requires all managers to be evaluated every year, not something that's left to negotiation in the manager's contract or the whim of council. It seemed like he was trying to get council to come up with real standards for the evaluation that would be put in a law for everyone to see rhe process every year. They are supposed to be working on those standards for the next meeting, was how it was left.

i agree with all of you - i myself thinks pete is doing a great job - more in a short time than gary did in all his years. i believe he is willing to go the extra mile for us and has a passion for this village.
