EAST PALESTINE — Village Council took the next steps Monday toward moving the village hall into a larger space....

No one has picked up on what was the most baffling thing from last night's meeting. According to the MJ, Ellen Beagle voted against buying the new village hall, but then turned around and voted in favor of selling the current village hall. What's up with that? Where does she think the village offices should go? Looks to me like someone was dazed and confused.

To Jason: Cohen objected to the fact the contract was not available from the night of the very first reading if this ordinance. In fact, if I remember right, he said he didn't think the ordinance approving the contract was even legal if the contract wasn't available yet. It looks to me like it was law director Smith, once again, who was playing catch-up on it. Anytime you see changes or adjustments being made to a contract or an ordinance during the meeting itself, my opinion is it's almost always because the law director dropped the ball. All legislation and all contracts go through or come from and are prepared or approved by Smith first. So when something's not there or something's not ready you tell me where the problem is.

Looks like the West Street bridge was a little more expensive than planned. I often wonder why an underpass wasn't put in on the Market street and eliminate this bridge entirely. It would have eliminated one more grade crossing which NS has been trying to do all over the country. It could have been done for the same amount of money or less. I remember them talking about doing this in the 50's, But of course now they have all that valuable empty business property located on 2 corners. The school kids walk down to Walnut street to cross the tracks where there isn't even a crossing.
