So let me see if I've got this straight. The fire dept needs more EMTs but is finding it hard to recruit them. In response, Figley and Elzer want to cut the number of ambulances. Fewer drivers, fewer ambulances. Does anyone else see the stupidity in this, the "let the tail wag the dog" philosophy? What we need is to recruit more firemen and EMTs. Look around. Every hospital and medical facility in the nation is expanding, preparing for the aging baby boomers now into their 60s. The EP population is aging too. We need to think about more and better EMT service, not less. Don't you guys watch or read the news?

Taking away one of our ambulances is just another way for Figley and Elzer to tear down our town. These guys won't rest until they've diminished anything left that's good about this village. Truth is, eliminating one ambulance will not change the village general fund's bottom line by one penny. The voters overwhelmingly passed a fire levy specifically so the fire department has the money to maintain and buy its safety vehicles. That money can't be used for anything else. This is done so shortsighted politicians like Figley and Elzer can't get their hands on the money. By saying this money should be used for "other things," Figley is trying to defy the will of the voters, who generously passed our fire levy to insure our own safety. Shame on you, Mr. Figley. You're supposed to work for us not against us.
