HEADLINE: Ohio School District Votes 5-0 to Arm Staff

On Wednesday, the Montpelier Exempted Village Schools Board of Education voted 5-0 to put guns on campus.

Their move will allow custodians to undertake training and carry handguns on the K-12 school grounds in Williams county.

It will be a show of force and a real life defense against criminals like Adam Lanza.

School board president Larry Martin said the crime at Sandy Hook Elementary forced his hand: "Our main goal is to offer safety for our students while they are in our classrooms and in the building. We have to do something and this seems like the most logical, reasonable course to go with."

Superintendent Jamie Grime echoed Martin's sentiment: "There is a need for schools to beef up their security measures... guns in the hands of the right people are not a hindrance. They are a means to protect."

These people are a classic reason why the only recourse for children is to run and or hide behind someone else to survive an attack. Since the gov passed the safe schools act, the weakest of society are purposely abandoned by common sense. I would let the janitors carry. You can hire any vet and all they have to do is learn school duties while not being their primary skill, if you get what I mean. All it takes is the hint in the paper an armed person might be working in the school district and the desired effect will spread.

It seems that Mr Wolf is the one with the empty mind here. Is his solution to enact more gun laws that don't keep the guns out of the hands of criminals? We have been doing that since the 1800's when the town Marshall told the gunman to check his gun at the office. The good guys checked theirs, the bad guys didn't. Luckily the fairy tale ends when the Marshall shoots the bad guy in a gun fight. Sadly, the odds were in favor of the bad guy because many Marshall's didn't win and the honest citizen had left his gun at home. Obviously we need to have more control over the mentally unstable. The shame is on society that we even have to consider armed guards in our schools. Lack of morals and discipline over the last 50 years is the contributing factor that is ignored in all of these incidents.
