Volunteers are abandoned

Editor:

We have the pleasure of living in a tight knit community such as Lisbon, where everyone knows everyone. Sometimes this can be bad depending on what you said or did at the bar last weekend.

However, the beauty of living in a small town is reflected most when tragedy strikes or a neighbor needs help. When this does occur, who can we rely on? Volunteers!

A wise and quick handed man once said, “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth.”

I was dismayed when I heard that a number of volunteers were instructed that their services were no longer needed at the Columbiana County Dog Pound.

My best friend came from the pound. I knew when I saw her that I needed her just as much as she needed me. These dogs need as many volunteers as they can get.

I am fully aware of the time and money that these volunteers have sacrificed for the sake of their love for animals. Whether it be that egos need to be checked or character needs to be questioned, it should always be about what is best for the dogs.
