Please take time to remember our veterans as Nov. 11 approaches. The symbol for Veterans Day has been the three 11’s (11-11-11). It was on Nov. 11 at 11 o’clock in the morning when the treaty was signed to end World W ar I.

Today the United States is still engaged in a war in Afghanistan. A lot of us never give it a second thought as we go about our busy daily lives enjoying our freedoms. But the families with enlisted men and women with repeated tours of duty with some having made the ultimate sacrifice have gone through many hardships.

When you see a service man or woman in uniform look them in the eye and shake their hand, thanking them for their service. Our young people today do not connect their freedoms they enjoy (going shopping, driving their car, talking to friends) with the service members who make it possible.

If possible on Monday, try to attend a ceremony or parade honoring our heroes. Support the veterans who have served our country.
