Keep wind farms save as possible
Wind farms to generate electricity are wonderful for the environment, Americans have been led to believe. The truth is more complicated.
Tall towers on which enormous spinning blades are mounted can be massive killers of birds. Officials at the Ohio Power Siting Board want to minimize that problem with restrictions on six wind turbines to be erected on Lake Erie.
Such rules would jeopardize financing for the project, the developer objects.
Too bad. State officials should put the proposed rules in place, ensuring the wind farm is as environmentally friendly as proponents of such facilities claim.
