This scandal is not new

A “new” scandal is being looked into by some members of Congress. It involves sale of about 20 percent of the nation’s uranium assets to a Russian company in 2010.

If you have been paying attention, however, you already know about it. We have urged for some time that circumstances surrounding the sale be investigated.

Those circumstances are these: The sale had to be approved by the State Department, under then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The transaction breezed through that process, despite the obvious implications of Russia controlling such a large portion of the U.S. uranium supply.

So did as much as $145 million in donations to the Clintons’ nonprofit foundation by those who had stakes in making the uranium deal happen. And Bill Clinton was paid $500,000 for a speech in Russia.

Yes, something smells rotten. The odor is one of Russia buying influence.

The whole affair has escaped a thorough investigation for far too long. It is about time Congress took a close look at it.
