Trump’s message was clear

Donald Trump’s message can be summed up by something he said in May, regarding his pledge to erect a barrier to block illegal immigration across our southern border.

Asked about the Mexican president’s dismissive comment regarding the plan, Trump said this:

“The wall just got 10 feet higher.”

Nearly everyone in the media ridiculed the statement. So did many politicians, both Democrat and Republican.

But out here in flyover country, people understood Trump perfectly. It was just what we had been waiting to hear for a long, long time.

Aside from the details of curbing illegal immigration — no plan ever is implemented exactly as envisioned — Trump’s message was loud and clear.

America is a great country, he reminded us. Americans are good people.

And no one pushes us around.

The wonder of Trump’s campaign is not that he won. It is that so many, both here and abroad, never understood  his appeal to Americans who are sick and tired of being pushed around.
