SALEM — Ernest Norton, 83, of Salem died Wednesday evening at Salem Regional Medical Center.
He was born April 4, 1935 in Marshall, N.C., the son of the late Clark and Stella Gosnell Norton.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he retired as a maintenance supervisor at General Motors.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Rigsby Norton; sisters, Anna Mae Robinson and Ernie Metcalf; and a grandson, Anthony Kaiser.
Survivors include his children, Samantha Kaiser, Jennifer Shamp and Barbara Bates, all of Salem, Frankie Norton-Evans of Morganton, N.C., Lola Javens of Hammondsville and Ernest Clark Norton Sr. of Orange Park, Fla.; siblings, Vernon Norton of Spillcorn, N.C., and Martha McGhinnis of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Kerr-Pastore Funeral Home in Salineville with the Rev. Pat Smith officiating. Full military honors being accorded by the American Legion John Adams Post 442 Honor Guard.
Friends may call two hours prior to the service. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.
