PHOENIX, Ariz. — Ruth Ann (Bodnar) Mitchell, 76, formerly of Chippewa Twp., PA passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Paradise Living Center in Phoenix, AZ. She was born November 5, 1941 in Chippewa Twp. PA, the daughter of the late Michael C. and Margaret (Meteney) Bodnar.
Ruth moved with her family to Colorado when she was a teenager, and graduated from Lakewood High School, Lakewood, CO in 1959. She returned to Chippewa Twp., PA and Columbiana, OH, before eventually retiring in San Tan Valley and Mesa, AZ. She had lead a very successful career as a professional ice skater, coach and instructor. During her retirement, she became a national speaker, advocate and educator for victims of senior investment fraud activities.
She was formerly a member of St. Jude Church in Columbiana, OH and St Monica Church in Chippewa, PA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard L. Mitchell (2016); her brother, Alan Bodnar (2005); and her sister, Rose Trill (2010).
She is survived by her sister, Christine Mowry (Piscataway, NJ); sister-in-law, Jackie Bodnar (East Palestine, OH); son, Robert M. Shepherd (Limon, CO), son and daughter-in-law, Thomas E. and Dale Elizabeth Mitchell, (Phoenix, AZ); and 3 grandchildren.
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, November 9, 2018 at St Monica’s Parish-Chippewa at 10:00am. Fr Kim Schreck will officiate.
Private interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
