Charles Crowl

RICHMOND, Va. — Charles L. Crowl, 88, of Richmond, Va., passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 12, 2018.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Anne Frayser Crowl; and stepchildren, Robin Frayser, (Lisa) and Adair Roper (Roy). He is also survived by stepgrandchildren, Preston Roper, Scott Roper, Grayson Frayser and Logan Frayser.

Chuck was a native of East Palestine, Ohio, and only son of parents, Ester and Lloyd Crowl. He was a proud Eagle Scout and graduated from the University of Cincinnati as a mechanical engineer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

Mr. Crowl joined Reynolds Metals in 1955 as a plant manager in Richmond, Va. Mr. Crowl transferred to St. Louis in 1958 to 1960 to manage all the administration services in their printing plant. In 1962, he transferred to the International Division of Reynolds and moved to Columbia to manage all the Columbian operations. In 1966 to 1988, he moved to Mons, Belgium to manage all their plant operations. He became fluent in Spanish, French and Portuguese.

Upon retirement, Chuck moved back to Richmond, Va. and joined his dear friend, Andy Walters in their egg producing farm, Glenwood Farms, which was the largest automated egg producing farm on the east coast. He and Andy then invested in the first Eggslands Best franchise. Chuck later served on the board of Eggsland Best. They supplied the eggs for the White House Easter egg roll under President Clinton.

He was a member of the Commonwealth Club, the Shriners, and Midlothian Rotary, which brought him the greatest pleasure as a Rotarian helping others.

He was a true patriot, friend and benefactor. Throughout his life, his kindness and generosity touched many people, and he was beloved by all who knew him. He supported Boy Scouts of America, University of Cincinnati, and GoochlandCares, along with other philanthropic endeavors.

A graveside memorial service will be held at a Hollywood Cemetery Thursday, August 16, at 11 a.m., followed by a reception at Hermitage Country Club.
