Robert Fife

Lisbon — Robert Frank Fife, 96, formerly of North Beaver Street, passed away at 10:35am, Monday, May 14, 2018 at Blossom Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a recent illness.

Bob was born September 10, 1921 in Wayne Township, a son of the late Clarence E. and Elva E. (Huffman) Fife.

He attended Wayne Township and Lisbon Schools and was a 65+ year member of the Lisbon First United Methodist Church. For many years, Mr. Fife raised the flag with the American Legion at Lisbon Home football games. He also decorated graves of veterans every Memorial Day for more than 60 years in Lisbon and various rural cemeteries. Bob was also an avid traveler and had been to all states in the US with the exception of Montana, Oregon, and Washington.

He worked for various mining and construction companies and was a Master Mechanic and teacher at the Operating Engineers School at Pine Lake. He retired from the Operating Engineers Union Local 66.

Mr. Fife served in the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II and attended yearly Seabee reunions throughout the United States for over 30 years. In 2016, he was honored by the American Legion Post 275, the Fraternal Order of Eagles 2216, and the Operating Engineers Local 66 for 70 years of service. He was also a member of the Wilfred J. Clunk VFW Post 4111, 40/8 Voiture 273, Lisbon Eagles Aerie #2216, Salem Elks Lodge 305, New Lisbon Lodge #65 F&AM, 32 degree Scottish Rite, Amvets 45, Tadmor Shriners, Leetonia Sportsman Club, and the West Point Rod and Gun Club.

Mr. Fife enjoyed riding the bike trail into his 90’s and when he could no longer go, he got his exercise through pickin’ and grinnin’ dancing with his friend, Donna.

His wife, Lydia M. (Bowles) Fife, whom he married June 5, 1948, preceded him in death November 2, 2007. His brother, Thomas Fife also preceded him in death.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11am, Thursday, May 17, 2018 at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home with the Rev. Tina Gallaher officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Lisbon Cemetery.

The family will receive guests from 5pm to 7pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
