Samuel Coles Jr.

WELLSVILLE — Samuel Coles Jr., 93, of Wellsville died Fridayat his home following a lengthy illness.

He was born Dec. 11, 1924 in South Pittsburgh, Tenn., the son of the late Samuel Coles Sr. and Helen (Hill) Coles.

He served with the Tuskegee Airman in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He worked as a machinist for NRM in Columbiana for 23 years before retiring and drove a garbage truck for Wellsville for many years.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wellsville.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Yvette Coles and Deborah Coles; and two sisters, Elizabeth Thompson and Wilma Jackson.

Survivors include his wife Mauricia (Lambo) Coles; three sons, George Coles of East Liverpool, Maurice Coles and Lawrence Jody Coles both of Indiana; three stepsons, Rolando Lambo of California, Luiz Lambo of Columbus and Diago “Dennis” Lambo of Calcutta; four daughters, Tina Coles of Indiana, Bernadette Carter of Wellsville, Mary Lou Coles of Charleston, W.Va., and Ruth Coles of Charleston, W.Va.; a stepdaughter, Felipia Lambo of Wellsville; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Wellsville Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes, with Pastor Dirk Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Calling hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday.
