SALEM — Lawrence William Burcaw, 76, of Salem died 6:12 a.m. Nov. 5 at the Auburn Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Damascus.
He was born Aug. 15, 1941 in Salem, the son of the late Earl and Dorothy (Gillette) Burcaw.
He was a minister at several churches in Pennsylvania and at a prison, and also served as a traveling evangelist and singer. He was a teacher and a school bus driver in Pennsylvania, and sold life insurance for the Baltimore Life Company in Blue Eye, Pa. He also served as an EMT, drove a school bus for the deaf, was an Amish taxi driver and a paramedic.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Isabelle Ruth Burcaw and Rosemond Mattavi.
Survivors include his wife, the former Jane Ellen McHugh; children, Mark Burcaw of North Benton, John Burcaw of Berlin Center, Timothy Burcaw of North Benton, and Rebecca Paulus of Spring Grove, Pa.; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Salem Bible Methodist Church, with the Rev. Joe Smith officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services and 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
